What is a transfer case sensor?
A transfer case sensor is an electronic device that is used to measure, monitor, and manage the torque that is sent to all four wheels of a vehicle in order to ensure a smooth transition between two-wheel and four-wheel drive.
How do I determine if my transfer case sensor is faulty?
If your transfer case sensor is faulty, you may experience a number of issues with your vehicle, such as a transmission that shifts hard, a 4WD that won't engage, or an illuminated check engine light. Additionally, you may hear a grinding noise when you shift gears, or your vehicle may seem to struggle when accelerating.

Yes, a faulty transfer case sensor can cause damage to your vehicle, such as decreased fuel economy, transmission slipping, or even transmission failure.
How do I replace a transfer case sensor?
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Locate the transfer case sensor.
- Disconnect the transfer case sensor wiring harness.
- Unscrew the transfer case sensor from the transfer case.
- Install the new transfer case sensor and reattach the wiring harness.
- Reconnect the negative battery cable.
