What is the purpose of an Engine Crankshaft Cover?

The purpose of the Engine Crankshaft Cover is to help contain engine oil and protect the crankshaft and other internal components from dirt, dust, and other debris. It also helps to reduce engine noise and vibration.

How can I tell if my Engine Crankshaft Cover is faulty?

You may notice a leak of engine oil around the seal of the Engine Crankshaft Cover. You may also notice increased engine noise or vibration, or a decrease in engine performance.

A faulty Engine Crankshaft Cover can cause damage to the crankshaft, bearings, timing belt/chain, and other internal engine components due to exposure of these components to dirt, dust, and other debris.

How do I replace an Engine Crankshaft Cover?

To replace an Engine Crankshaft Cover, you will need to:

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable
  2. Remove the timing belt/chain
  3. Remove the bolts holding the Engine Crankshaft Cover in place
  4. Replace the Engine Crankshaft Cover
  5. Replace the bolts and tighten them securely
  6. Reconnect the timing belt/chain
  7. Reconnect the negative battery cable
