What exhaust system sounds the best?

Both Flowmaster and Magnaflow have perfected the sound of a good exhaust system.

When you hear an exhaust system, you are probably hearing Flowmaster or Magnaflow notes. Both companies make a range of exhaust systems, with mild, moderate and aggressive notes.

Unless you are racing, or otherwise just want something aggressive, we would recommend something with a mild or moderate sound. This is especially the case if you are spending a lot of time in your vehicle and doing a lot of city or highway driving.

Other sound systems that sound great are Borla, Corsa and MBRP. It all comes down to personal preference, and how mild or aggressive you want your exhaust system sound to be.

How much does a performance exhaust system cost?

A performance exhaust system has a wide price range of $224.99 - $2,789.99.

There's a lot that goes into it including:

1) How popular is your vehicle? A Silverado exhaust system will probably cost less than a Corvette system because there are more trucks on the road than Corvettes. The manufacturer will be able to manufacture more in bulk, lowering the cost for everyone.

2) Materials. An exhaust system made with higher quality and thicker steel will cost more.

3) Performance ratings. Aggressive and racing exhaust systems will cost more, because there is more engineering that goes into them. Factory level replacement exhaust systems will cost less because they are more standard.

The first thing to do is to filter the exhaust systems above by the year/make/model of your vehicle. This will show you the price ranges and what's available for your exact vehicle.

How much horsepower does an exhaust system add?

This completely depends on the exhaust system, but a commonly quoted figure is about a 10% horsepower gain. You'll need to check the exact exhaust system you are interested in, but this is a general number.

For the biggest gains, you will want to replace the entire exhaust system. You will only get minimal gains if you are replacing one component, such as the mufflers. A performance exhaust system contains all the parts that will work together to give you the best performance output. If you are looking for added horsepower, it is best to replace it all at once.

Can I install an exhaust system myself?

We highly recommend having a professional install your exhaust system. To install it yourself, you will need the proper tools, car lift, and experience. The vast majority of people will not have the garage set up for an exhaust system replacement, let alone the experience or knowledge.

This is one of those installations that needs a professional. We recommend having your new exhaust system shipped directly to your preferred auto garage, and scheduling an afternoon for installation.

How fast can I get my exhaust system?
