I was just driving my yukon and the speedometer was reading 100 miles i knew something was wrong because when i stop and turn it off the speedometer stayed at 40 miles and i dont know at what speed am at when am on the freeway, i as a mechanic shop an they told me that i had to go to the dealer for that.
-
Stabilitrak off light comes on, followed by reduced engine power. Vehicle won't go over 30 mph then completely shuts down. Steering goes out and had i not been in a safe location where i could drift over to shoulder it could have been extremely dangerous.
-
We too have had the speedometer acting up. Usually around 100km. Some days it works but lately most days it does not work. Going to get a new cable for it to see if it will change the problem.
How to read this page
Every figure comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's public complaint database, which holds every safety-related defect complaint filed by owners since 1995. We refresh it monthly and count each complaint once per component it names. Data through September 6, 2026.
NHTSA only accepts safety-related complaints. Rattles, paint, infotainment bugs and other annoyances are under-reported here, so this page is a map of what fails in ways owners consider dangerous, not a full reliability score.
Counts are raw. Use the year-over-year shape and the component mix, not the absolute numbers. Where a component maps to parts we stock, the row links to that category filtered to the year you are viewing. Air bag and seat belt complaints link to the recall checker instead, because those repairs are almost always covered.
