In owners' words

Complaint narratives as filed with NHTSA, trimmed for length.

  • 2003 · Visibility88574 mi

Drivers side window regulator fails with loud bang and window falls into door while driving. This has happened to my vehicle twice, once in april 2008 and again february 2010. On-line research with "element owners club" indicates this has happened to many others.

  • 2004 · VisibilityMileage not given

My HONDA element has had two windshields replaced and now a crack again at the base moving up. Stress cracks not foreign material hitting the car. I simply cannot afford a 500 deductible to get another windshield.....

  • 2005 · Electrical system172000 mi

My 2005 HONDA element constantly display airbag off, when it's inaccurate, dashboard light doesn't work. There's some kind of shortage because it blinks, come on and go off and stay off. It shows the same information, rather driving or stationary. Are there recalls on this car? It's been one problem after another.

How to read this page

Every figure comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's public complaint database, which holds every safety-related defect complaint filed by owners since 1995. We refresh it monthly and count each complaint once per component it names. Data through September 6, 2026.

NHTSA only accepts safety-related complaints. Rattles, paint, infotainment bugs and other annoyances are under-reported here, so this page is a map of what fails in ways owners consider dangerous, not a full reliability score.

Counts are raw. Use the year-over-year shape and the component mix, not the absolute numbers. Where a component maps to parts we stock, the row links to that category filtered to the year you are viewing. Air bag and seat belt complaints link to the recall checker instead, because those repairs are almost always covered.
