Product Details

This Cloyes timing chain tensioner is engineered to maintain correct timing chain tension in OE-style engine valvetrain systems. Cloyes designs and manufactures its timing components using CAD-based development and advanced materials, then tests each part for function and durability. Part number 9-5423 meets or exceeds OEM performance requirements and is listed as a direct replacement for Mopar 53020681 and interchange 95423. It is a specific-fit component for center-position applications across vehicles such as the Jeep Liberty, Dodge Dakota, Dodge Nitro, Dodge Ram 1500, and Ram 2500.

Cloyes recommends replacing the chain tensioner, sprockets, and guides together when servicing the timing chain, since these parts work together to keep the chain properly tensioned and aligned.

What It Helps Address

• Timing chain slack in center-mounted engine timing systems
• Noise caused by worn or weak chain tension control
• Chain movement from aging spring or hydraulic tension components
• Uneven timing chain tracking across blade-style guide surfaces
• Service issues during timing chain replacement on Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and Mitsubishi engines

Installation Notes

Verify part number, dimensions, and engine application before purchase. This tensioner is not manually adjustable and uses an activation pin with spring-assisted operation. For timing service, inspect the chain, guides, and sprockets at the same time and replace worn components together to restore proper chain control.
