Detailed Product Overview

Dorman 81649 is an interior door handle engineered for direct replacement use on 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee front right and rear right doors. The handle is made from black plastic and is shaped to align with the stock interior trim, helping maintain the factory appearance inside the vehicle. This replacement is a practical choice when the original handle is cracked, loose, broken, or no longer releases the door smoothly. This part cross-references ACI 81649 for the same application.

Common Problems This Part Can Address

  • Broken or cracked interior door handle
  • Handle that no longer opens the door cleanly
  • Loose handle movement from worn mounting points
  • Interior trim mismatch after a previous repair
  • Driver or passenger access issues on Jeep Grand Cherokee doors

Installation Notes and Tips

Verify door position before ordering, since this handle is specific to the front right and rear right locations on select Jeep Grand Cherokee models. The handle uses clip-on and screw-on attachment points, so inspect the existing mounting area and surrounding trim before installation. Transfer or reuse any vehicle-specific linkage or cable components as needed, since cable and linkage are not included.

Dorman designs replacement parts to match the fit and appearance of original components on specific vehicles. For this application, Dorman 81649 is built as a direct-fit interior door handle for select Jeep Grand Cherokee model years, supporting a factory-style repair without changing the interior design.
