FMBP 498404 Engine Rocker Arm

Performance rocker arm for GM V8 applications

This Melling engine rocker arm, part number 498404, is a performance-grade valvetrain component built for a wide range of Chevrolet and GMC applications. It uses a shaft mounting design with a self-aligning layout to support stable valve train operation in compatible engines.

Key features

• Non-roller rocker arm design for performance valvetrain use
• Hardened steel construction for strength and wear resistance
• Black oxide coating for added surface protection
• Self-aligning design helps maintain rocker alignment
• Shaft-mounted configuration for supported engine setups
• Made in the USA

Detailed description

Part number 498404 is a Melling performance rocker arm intended for domestic and import engine rebuilds where the OEM design calls for a shaft-mounted, non-roller rocker. The hardened steel body and black oxide finish provide a durable combination for engines that see regular street use or performance operation. Melling also notes that its rocker arms are offered in stamped or cast forms depending on OEM requirements, and recommends replacing rocker arms and related components during a rebuild to help maintain efficient engine operation. This part cross-references Monroe Shocks & Struts (e.g., 40-2841) for the same application.

Compatible with long-slot performance applications across Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Corvette, Chevrolet C10, GMC Jimmy, and other GM platforms listed in the fitment data, this rocker arm is used in engines that require a self-aligning shaft setup. The 498404 part number is also useful when matching a replacement to an existing Melling specification during engine service.

What this part is used for

• Replacing a worn or damaged rocker arm in a rebuild
• Restoring proper valve train geometry in shaft-mounted systems
• Addressing noisy or inconsistent valvetrain operation
• Supporting performance engine service on GM V8 platforms
• Matching an OE-style rocker arm specification during overhaul

Installation notes and tips

Verify that the engine uses a shaft-mounted, self-aligning rocker arm before ordering. Confirm the OEM rocker arm style, valve train layout, and long-slot performance requirement against the existing hardware and service information. During installation, inspect the related valvetrain components and replace worn parts as part of the rebuild process. Use the 498404 part number to confirm application details when comparing against the original component.

Quality assurance

Melling manufactures this rocker arm in the USA and positions it for performance engine service across domestic and import applications. The brand recommends replacing rocker arms and associated components during every engine rebuild to support long engine life and efficient operation.
