Detailed Description

This Gates 31371 adapter is used with a radiator cap and cooling system tester to interface with cooling system components that use a 45mm x 3mm thread pattern. It is a direct-fit diagnostic adapter for pressure testing cooling systems on vehicles such as the Ram ProMaster 1500, Ram ProMaster 2500, Ram ProMaster 3500, Ram ProMaster City, Volvo XC90, Volvo S80, Volvo 850, Jeep Cherokee, Dodge Sprinter 2500, and Fiat 500. The Gates 31371 also cross-references Bosch 12018 for the same application.

Gates radiator cap/cooling system tester adapters are built to help technicians match the tester to the correct component size during leak checks, cap testing, and system pressure verification. This makes the adapter a practical service tool for diagnosing cooling system concerns on many import and light-duty platforms.

What It Is Used For

• Pressure testing a cooling system that uses a 45mm x 3mm threaded connection
• Checking for radiator, hose, cap, or connection leaks
• Verifying cooling system pressure retention during diagnosis
• Servicing vehicles with hard-to-match radiator cap thread sizes
• Supporting cooling system testing on Ram, Volvo, Saab, Jeep, Dodge, and Fiat applications

Installation Notes and Tips

Confirm the tester adapter thread size before use and match it to the cooling system component being tested. Thread the adapter securely by hand to avoid cross-threading, then connect it to the radiator cap and cooling system tester according to the tool manufacturer’s procedure. For best results, verify the vehicle’s cooling system is cool before testing and inspect the adapter seal and mating surfaces before each use.
