KYB Strut Boot SB131 for Rear Suspension

KYB Strut Boot SB131 is a rear suspension strut bellows built for 2002-2005 Ford Explorer and 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer applications. It helps shield the strut shaft and seal area from road grit while adding a travel-limiting bumper for added suspension protection.

Key Features

• Superior-quality boot helps protect the strut shaft from dirt and debris that can contribute to seal wear
• Poly foam bumper helps prevent the strut from bottoming out
• Built to match or exceed OE design and quality expectations
• Helps protect the upper seal and bushing from contamination
• Designed specifically for Explorer and Mountaineer rear suspension applications

Product Details

KYB Strut Boots are made to cover the full strut shaft with a durable plastic bellows, helping keep out dust, sand, salt, and other road debris. By reducing exposure to abrasive contaminants, SB131 supports longer service life for the strut assembly and helps maintain cleaner operation around the polished shaft, upper seal, and bushing. This part number is a direct fit for rear applications on the Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer within the listed model years. This part number, SB131, is a focused OE-style solution for those rear suspension service jobs.

KYB Strut Boots is the product line name for protective bellows and bumpers used to help preserve strut components in daily driving conditions. If you are servicing a rear strut on a 2002-2005 Ford Explorer or 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer, SB131 is the matching KYB Strut Boot part number to check.

What It Helps Address

• Strut shaft wear caused by dirt, dust, sand, and salt
• Contamination around the upper seal and bushing
• Bottoming-out impact during suspension compression
• Damage from extreme suspension movement
• Premature deterioration of exposed strut components

Installation Notes and Tips

Install the boot during rear strut service so the bellows and bumper can be positioned correctly on the assembly. Verify rear fitment for 2002-2005 Ford Explorer and 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer before installation, and inspect the surrounding suspension components for wear while the strut is accessible. SB131 is listed for rear use only.

Quality Assurance

KYB is known for suspension components built to OE-level design standards, and SB131 follows that approach for rear strut protection on the Explorer and Mountaineer. This part cross-references Monroe Shocks & Struts (e.g., 172286, 182286) for the same application.
