The fuse box melted and caused electrical malfunctions. This seems like a safety issue. Apparently this has happened frequently and other models (tiguan) have been recalled due to the failure of the same part number.

Got a notice from creditkarma.com giving me information on my car make and model being recalled for brake system issues.

4/5/16 4:30pm, vehicle would not shut off. Brought to volkswagen dealers who diagnosed vehicle with an ignition lock cylinder housing issue. The vehicle did not stall or fail in that sense, but it is still distressing to have a fault on the ignition switch.
