In owners' words

Complaint narratives as filed with NHTSA, trimmed for length.

  • 2003 · SuspensionMileage not given

ABC (Active Body Control) light keeps coming on and body goes up and down when I drove car. Light says do not drive. Mercedes would not take responsibility for this in spite there are so many complaints about this. Really irresponsible by Mercedes.

  • 2004 · Suspension90000 mi

I have had major problems with the suspension. The abc light came on before. The car dropped on the freeway. I almost lost control. It is a major problem that should have been recalled and fixed properly. I've only driven 400 miles in the last few years total because i'm afraid something bad will happen again.

  • 1995 · Electrical systemMileage not given

Car immediately stalled in the middle of the interstate. Driving vehicle and it began to stall. Was not able to even pull to side of the road. Was later able to jump start vehicle, however still had issues with stalling and no acceleration. Have been informed it is a "harness wiring issue".

How to read this page

Every figure comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's public complaint database, which holds every safety-related defect complaint filed by owners since 1995. We refresh it monthly and count each complaint once per component it names. Data through September 6, 2026.

NHTSA only accepts safety-related complaints. Rattles, paint, infotainment bugs and other annoyances are under-reported here, so this page is a map of what fails in ways owners consider dangerous, not a full reliability score.

Counts are raw. Use the year-over-year shape and the component mix, not the absolute numbers. Where a component maps to parts we stock, the row links to that category filtered to the year you are viewing. Air bag and seat belt complaints link to the recall checker instead, because those repairs are almost always covered.
